VICTORIA - A Gas Tax Agreement amendment to extend spending deadlines for Community Works, Regionally Significant Projects, Innovations, and Strategic Priority funding has been finalized.
The amendment, signed by UBCM President Mary Sjostrom, the Hon. Bill Bennett, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and the Hon. Denis Lebel, federal Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, extends the expenditure deadline to December 31, 2018 from the previous deadline of March 31, 2015.
The amendment also includes a requirement that all projects approved for the funding under the Strategic Priorities Fund, Regionally Significant Projects Fund and Innovations Fund be complete by September 30, 2018.
All local governments are advised that this new spending deadline applies to all Gas Tax funding received under the 2005-2014 Gas Tax Agreement. The purpose of the amendment is to provide for a reasonable timeline for local governments to complete their sustainable infrastructure and capacity building projects.
