About the Surveys & Statistics
The surveys and statistics service is offered through a partnership between CivicInfo BC, the Union of BC Municipalities, the Local Government Management Association of BC, the BC Recreation and Parks Association, and Local Government Department of British Columbia's Ministry of Community Development. This initiative has been made possible by funding from all five organizations.
CivicInfo BC makes no representations or warranties whatsoever, either express or implied, with respect to the accuracy, reliability, or suitability for any purpose, of the statistics and other information available through this website. Any person using the statistics and information on this site accepts and assumes all risks related to accuracy, reliability and use.
Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Statistics
The Ministry of Community Development (MCD) Statistics are used with permission from the Ministry’s Local Government Department. The Local Government Department’s website describes the information they collect, and those descriptions are reproduced below.
Municipal Statistics: Data is submitted by local governments
following the close of their fiscal year (December 31). The date for
data submission
is May 15 of the following year and schedules are usually published that
same September. The quality of information contained in the schedules
depends on the inputs of local governments.
Tax Rates: Municipal tax rate bylaws are required to be adopted before
May 15th of each year. Tax rate files and tax burden files are available
in July of that same year.
Regional District Statistics: Regional District statistics use the current year assessments supplied by BC Assessment in April and revised population estimates certified by the Minister responsible.
All MCS statistics are also available for download on the Department’s website at http://www.cd.gov.bc.ca/lgd/infra/statistics_index.htm. Additional information, and data from previous years, may be obtained by e-mailing lgde@gov.bc.ca.
Local Government Surveys
Most of the local government surveys are administered jointly by CivicInfo BC, the Union of BC Municipalities, and the Local Government Management Association of BC. Recreation related surveys are co-managed with the BC Recreation and Parks Association.
Local governments are surveyed for current-year information in the month of February, and results are posted to this website in March. As with the MCD Statistics, the accuracy and reliability of survey results depends on the inputs of local governments.
Most information collected through the surveys is freely available, however information about salaries, benefits, and remuneration can only be found in the “Members” area. If you are a UBCM, CivicInfo BC, or Local Government Management Association of BC member, please e-mail info@civicinfo.bc.ca to obtain your password.
