The Planning and Building Department is seeking auxiliary Building Inspectors to join their team!
 
The department is recruiting for auxiliary staff at the Building Inspector 1, Building Inspector 2 and Building Inspector 3 levels to perform building inspectional and regulatory work to ensure compliance with the Building, Zoning and Sign by-laws and BC Building Code.  The work becomes progressively more complex and diverse between the levels with the Building Inspector 1 performing entry-level work, up to the Building Inspector 3 performing work at the full working level.
 
All positions require knowledge of related bylaws, acts and regulations and the ability to interpret the same accurately; of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in building construction; the ability to interpret and enforce regulations impartially and tactfully; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and to maintain effective working relationships with related contacts.
 
Qualifications for all Building Inspectors include completion of grade 12 and graduation from BCIT with a Building Technology Diploma or completion of a recognized carpentry trade apprenticeship. The Building Inspector 1 requires sound experience as a Plan Checker 1 or related construction background and BOABC Level 1 certification. Building Inspector 2 requires sound experience as a Plan Checker 2 or Building Inspector 1 and BOABC Level 2 certification. Building Inspector 3 requires considerable experience as a Building Technologist or Building Inspector 2 and BOABC Level 3 certification; or, along with the BOABC certification, an equivalent combination of training and experience. All positions require a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
 
The hourly wage for the Building Inspector 1 is $31.00 + 12% in lieu of benefits (Pay Grade 21).
The hourly wage for the Building Inspector 2 is $33.62 + 12% in lieu of benefits (Pay Grade 23).
The hourly wage for the Building Inspector 3 is $39.69 + 12% in lieu of benefits (Pay Grade 27).
