Bill Copeland Sports Centre and Kensington Complex are seeking passionate, enthusiastic people who are looking to create a lasting legacy through their leadership and commitment to sport and wellness. Our dedicated and dynamic staff team welcomes applications for a Head Skate Instructor for our Recreational Skating Lessons. In this role you will ensure customer satisfaction by anticipating and exceeding customer expectations. You will provide customer service, develop and coordinate skating lessons, and ensure a fun and safe environment for all participants. Other duties include training and supervising a team of qualified skating instructors and volunteers, and assisting with the development and delivery of recreational ice skating programs. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with participants and parents. A thorough understanding of City of Burnaby policies and procedures as well as a strong customer service background maintaining relationships with staff and the general public are additional desired abilities.
Successful applicants will have strong customer service skills, proven public relations skills, effective communication skills, strong ice skating skills, along with strong interpersonal and problem solving skills with the ability to work independently. An NCCP (National Coaching Certificate Program) or a Recreational Skate Instructor Course or equivalent is required. Experience supervising staff in a recreation setting and knowledge and experience with the CLASS registration system are preferred attributes. Recreation Leadership diploma, valid first aid and CPR certification and High Five training are considered assets. A valid BC Driver’s Licence is required. You must have your own skates and a CSA-approved hockey helmet or a snow sports helmet.
