Director, Business Development


What we are looking for:
Northern Development Initiative Trust is seeking a collaborative, strategic and high-performing leader to lead the next phase of its business development programs. Based in Prince George, the Director, Business Development reports to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for establishing the strategies and operations necessary to support private sector growth in the Trust’s service area through its suite of business development programs.

Our small but mighty team is looking for a candidate who is a proven leader with an entrepreneurial mindset, extensive experience working to support small business growth and is a results-oriented collaborator. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Northern B.C. and the communities we serve, is driven to succeed and can creatively build alliances and partnerships to support new initiatives that drive private sector growth.

Primary Responsibilities:
Priorities of this role include but are not limited to:
  • Establishing the strategy and managing the overall operations of the Trust’s business programs, including: the Competitiveness Consulting Rebate, Northern Industries Innovation Fund and the Business Façade Improvement program
  • Collaborating effectively and efficiently with the Province of B.C. to deliver the Connecting B.C. program, and maintaining responsibility for the day-to-day management of the program within the Trust, including interfacing with clients and Network BC and ensuring the Trust meets its delivery goals and contractual responsibilities
  • Supporting the development and mentorship of the Business Development Coordinator, and setting the coordinator’s workplan goals and ensuring they are achieved
  • Establishing the strategy and managing the overall operations of the Supply Chain Connector procurement database
  • Collaborating with industry and business association partners to deliver programs, events and workshops focused on entrepreneurialism, innovation, business productivity and profitability
  • Collaborating with the Director, Economic Development on outreach, development and management of the Northern Development Internship programs
  • Supporting the Love Northern BC Program with business resources

Education and Experience:
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, entrepreneurship or a related field
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in the private sector focused on business development, business consulting or a related field
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen, strategic and analytical skills, and superior project management skills
  • Strong experience as a professional manager managing both people and projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organizational effectiveness, operations management, human resource management, information technology management and enterprise-wide risk management best practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills including skills in providing senior leadership, team-building and day-to-day supervision to create and maintain a positive, working environment that supports staff in productive work outcomes and professional development
  • Sound information and computer literacy including sound working knowledge of financial management information systems and experience with MS Office 2007 software
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships and to deal effectively with individuals inside and outside of the organization in a variety of consultative and collaborative processes that may be departmental or organization-wide

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Sound knowledge of the Trust’s objectives and organizational structures
  • Demonstrated understanding of the economy in central and northern B.C. and the communities within the Trust’s service area.

Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to work flexible hours and/or evening work when preparing for board meetings, conferences and special events
  • Successful completion of security screening requirements which includes a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check.
  • Availability to travel
