To act as coordinator for BC Transit’s information access and privacy matters, promoting enterprise compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA).

  • Assists in managing investigations, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) reviews, and other processes
  • Involved in monitoring the OIPC decisions and announcements and government actions related to information access and privacy
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders
  • Helps to identify issues that require legal or other advice and support
  • Delivers information access and privacy training program for all employees and where applicable, contractors
  • Advises management on information access and privacy when applicable and helps to adapt policies and procedures accordingly
  • Assists in development and implementation of privacy management program, fostering a privacy-by-design approach and privacy-sensitive culture
  • Assists to maintain a privacy strategy that aligns with BC Transit’s business needs
  • Supports committees as applicable
  • Works with privacy management software to develop and maintain a Personal Information Inventory
  • Helps to monitor program assurance processes and prepare for privacy incidents and breaches
  • Functions as main contact for Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and response processes under FOIPPA
  • Oversees the organization, processing and completion of information access requests, in accordance with FOIPPA, including the identification and referral of FOI requests to the appropriate internal records providers within the organization
  • Guides internal records providers during the record gathering process
  • Runs the day-to-day coordination of the release of information to requesters, including internal notification are provided, as appropriate
  • Responsible for the day-to-day classification of, and proper filing/saving of all released FOI packages, according to BC Transit’s records management policies and procedures
  • Assists in making decisions and providing advice on the need to withhold and/or release information or records while considering potential risks to third parties and/or the organization
  • Oversees and applies on a day-to-day basis, redaction technology to sever records for release
  • Assists in reviewing documents, interpreting and applying FOIPPA provisions in collaboration with internal records providers

  • Post-Secondary education or equivalent in public administration, information management or a related discipline plus three years of experience working in an administrative capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience : Basic Knowledge of FOIPPA, FOI and the OIPC
  • Demonstrated advanced communication skills: written and oral; comfortable speaking to large groups
  • Experience in influencing strategies, promoting buy-in from key stakeholders
  • Utilizes influencing skills for compliance with FOIPPA
  • Demonstrated judgment, tact and experience in managing information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature
  • Demonstrated advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Two years’ experience in public or private sector information access and/or three years’ experience in privacy management
  • Certification as a privacy professional (through the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the Privacy and Access Council of Canada or equivalent organization)
  • Auditing and risk assessment experience
