Managers, supervisors, and other leaders will find this training a practical guide to increase their awareness and understanding of substance abuse. The overall goal is to help supervisors to identify related performance problems, to discuss problems with employees and most important, to show attendees how to gain an employee’s commitment to correct the problem. 
 
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify performance problems caused by substance misuse, understand enabling and intervention and create an action plan.
  • Demonstrate best practices for documentation and action when situations arise.
  • Build proactive strategies to deal with substance misuse and the special handling required.
  • Demonstrate how to discuss problems with employees via role-plays and case study analyses.
  • Demonstrate practical strategies for gaining an employee’s commitment to correct problems, including an action plan, effective documentation and interview techniques.
  • Identify the essential skills that good supervisors use to build trust and develop relationships with employees.
