Lead To Succeed

Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA)
Who should take this course?

Foremen, Superintendents, Project Managers and Project Coordinators

What will you learn?

Consider this scenario: You just received a promotion and you’re pumped up because you got a good raise and you feel like you’ve been given a vote of confidence by your superiors. After the original excitement wears off, you find yourself in a position where your peers and friends are now your subordinates. You’re feeling the pressure of increased scrutiny and demand from your supervisors, as well as the stress of dealing with the day-to-day grind: complaints, delays, paperwork, and other obstacles to completing your daily goals. Maybe you even start to question whether all the stress is worth it. You’re not getting the level of production from your team that your boss is expecting you to make. You have tried to cajole, negotiate, threaten with disciplinary action, and bribe your work crew in order to meet the demands of the day. Some days, all goes smoothly. Some days, not so much.

How do effective leaders create an environment where they can inspire their teams to perform at their highest levels of engagement and commitment every day? In the past, old-school leaders worked from a top-down hierarchy model – using a carrot/stick mentality to try and manage behavior. These tactics sometimes produce short-term improvements, but fail in making real, lasting, changes in team performance.

This course is designed to help you discover a more effective way of leading your team – starting with yourself.Leadership is an inside-out exercise, and this course will give you tools to better understand your own leadership strengths, how to motivate others, and how to listen and communicate better with your team.
