SCRD Chief Administrative Officer Receives FCM Award

Sunshine Coast Regional District

SECHELT - Janette Loveys, SCRD Chief Administrative Officer, has been recognized with the Mike Badham Award for her contribution to Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) international programs – which are fully funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada.
SCRD Chair Garry Nohr will present CAO Loveys with a plaque and personal letter from FCM President, Clark Somerville, at the Board Meeting on Thursday, March 23.
“We are very pleased that CAO Loveys has been involved in sharing her expertise through the FCM international programs,” says Garry Nohr, SCRD Board Chair. “Liaising with other professionals and helping out in communities around the world is an opportunity for CAO Loveys to bring back new ideas and experiences that can benefit our local community as well.”
The Mike Badham Award is given to an individual whose contribution to FCM International has gone above and beyond in terms of innovation, creativity, engagement and leadership. This award was named after the late Mike Badham, former president of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities' Association, in recognition of the leadership and dedication he brought to FCM's international programs from 1996 until his untimely death in January 2006.
This year, the FCM celebrates 30 years of international development programming in partnership with Global Affairs Canada.
“Every year, FCM recognizes the great work done by individuals in FCM international activities and the leadership they demonstrated through their contributions to programs,” says Sébastien Hamel, Senior Director, FCM Programs. “FCM is very grateful for the support and expertise that the Sunshine Coast Regional District provided to the Caribbean Local Economic Development project (CARILED).”
CAO Loveys has made outstanding contributions to CARILED’s overall goal of increasing sustainable local economic growth benefiting men and women in the Caribbean region. Lovey’s focus was on introducing LED to local government officials and LED organizations from various communities new to LED, as well as migrant labour rights and public engagement tools in China and local government services in Mozambique.
“Janette’s keen grasp of LED and LED planning, coupled with her polished yet personable approach enables her to effectively transmit useable information and tools to CARILED stakeholders,” says Hamel. “Her contributions have been very well-received by our local partners and has enabled them to make realistic and sustainable plans for the betterment of their communities. “
