City of Chilliwack Launches Block Party ToolkitCity of Chilliwack
CHILLIWACK - Organizing events for your neighbourhood just became a little easier, and a little more fun. In conjunction with the Celebration and Activity Grant program, the City has published a Block Party Toolkit to help streamline the planning process and bring more neighbourhoods together. Block parties are a great way to boost a sense of belonging, get to know your neighbours and create safer communities.
The City’s Celebration and Activity Grant offers matching funding for neighbourhood events, including block parties, in order to encourage engagement and create connected communities. In 2017, the Celebration and Activity Grant provided funding and other resources to 21 block parties, and last year it supported 44, helping several thousand residents connect with their neighbours. As the program continues to gain popularity, the new Block Party Toolkit will assist residents through each stage of the event planning process.
The Block Party Toolkit is a step-by-step guide to planning a neighbourhood block party from start to finish. Whether residents are in need of inspiration for party themes, activities for all ages, or they need help organizing before, during or after their event, the Toolkit is a useful resource with checklists, frequently asked questions, suggestions and steps to ensure a successful event.
“Hosting a block party is great way to get to know your neighbours and make your neighbourhood an even better place to live,” said Mayor Popove. “Residents who feel connected to their community are more inclined to communicate with each other and look after their neighbourhood together, increasing safety and encouraging crime prevention, in addition to building neighbourhood pride.”
