City of Campbell River Wins Award for 2017 Annual Report, Publishes 2018 Report with City ScoreboardCity of Campbell River
CAMPBELL RIVER - Building on the award-winning features of the 2017 annual report, the City of Campbell River has published its 2018 Annual Report, including a City Scorecard, which will be reviewed at the June 24 Council meeting.
“Along with the extensive financial analysis that was recognized with an award for the 2017 report, the 2018 report includes the first-ever City Scorecard section,” says City manager Deborah Sargent. “The Scorecard aims to track trends and measure outcomes. It uses graphic icons to illustrate the types of service delivered and share results.”
Campbell River’s 2017 Annual Report was recognized with the international Government Finance Officers Association award for including a comprehensive letter from the chief financial officer and a statistics section that enhanced financial analysis for readers. This is the same organization that has recognized the City with a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the 2016, 2017 and 2018 financial plan.
“Over the last several years, the City has improved the annual report by sharing more information, and presenting it in a more visual, accessible way. The award for the 2017 report is a testament to the City’s Finance and Communications teams demonstrating best practice with communications, transparency, and financial reporting,” Sargent says. “Developing the City Scorecard further enhances the report, providing a quick reference to data on the effects of City services.”
The 2018 report again features spectacular Campbell River photos, along with more use of infographics, particularly in the new City Scorecard section. Department sections also highlight key community service statistics.
“It’s all capped off with an ever-growing awards and year-in-review milestones section,” Sargent adds.
The City is required by law to produce an annual report that includes the City’s audited financial statements before June 30 each year. The document also provides a comprehensive summary of the City’s strategic goals and objectives and lays out goals for 2019-2020. The document also contains historical and demographic information.
The City of Campbell River’s 2018 Annual Report is posted under What’s New on the City’s website (campbellriver.ca) and will be archived with previous annual reports at campbellriver.ca/annual-report. Paper copies are available from City Hall reception. The Council meeting to review the 2018 Annual Report will be held at 6:30 p.m. June 23 in Council Chambers at City Hall.
