Wildfire Fuel Modification Work Scheduled in Summerland

District of Summerland

SUMMERLAND - The District of Summerland has received grant funding from the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) to complete wildfire fuel management treatments on municipal land in the Deer Ridge area. This is the final phase of three treatments stemming back several years.

Treatment will consist of thinning being undertaken by hand crews, chainsaws and possibly some small equipment. Pile burning, if used, will be done according to all District bylaws and advance notice will be provided of burning activities as much as possible.

Operations in the area will begin later this week and will finish prior to the end of March. During this time, some trails in the area will be closed as indicated by signage or flagging across trails. These closures are for the safety of the public.  The District asks that you adhere trail closure notices to avoid safety issues with operations and the operator.
