Province of BC Proclaims Local Government Awareness WeekCivicInfo BC
VICTORIA - The Union of BC Muncipalities, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Housing, and CivicInfo BC are celebrating Local Government Awareness Week in B.C., from May 17-23, 2020.
The goal of the week is to raise awareness, educate the public about local government and encourage public participation in the local government process.
British Columbia’s 189 local governments play an essential role in the day-to-day lives of citizens throughout the province, providing residents, businesses and civic associations with the services they need to function. From clean drinking water, sewer and wastewater management, streets, sidewalks and libraries, to community planning, fire and police protection, recreation and parks, local governments provide the services that we all depend on.
Local governments also serve, support and unite people during extraordinary and difficult times, which has been especially apparent throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
