Short Description:
Surrey’s District Energy (DE) system became operational in late 2014 and is now delivering hot water heating to customers at multiple sites in the growing City Centre downtown area.  DE is a cornerstone of the City of Surrey’s strategy to transition to renewable low-carbon energy sources, reduce GHG emissions and increase community resilience to higher energy prices.  At build‐out, this DE system may be one of the largest networks in North America and is projected to connect more than 25 million square feet of new development, as well as an existing regional hospital and schools.  The system is anticipated to result in GHG savings of approximately 16,000 tonnes/year by 2035.
