Short Description:
In 2013, a diverse group of twenty-two residents were brought together by Council to tackle the need to increase Vancouverites’ sense of belonging and inclusion, deepen their electoral engagement, and more deeply involve citizens in municipal decision-making. Four building blocks of an Engaged City emerged; 1) Build Knowledge, 2) Build Capacity, 3) Build Trust, and 4) Build Power.  The Task Force worked for over a year, with community input, to develop a series of quick starts and priority actions. Each of the recommendations varies in its potential to address gaps and barriers identified and are meant to work together, building momentum towards a stronger culture of participation and engagement in Vancouver.  The Public Engagement Team within City Communications is leading implementation of the recommendations. Key initiatives that have expanded the opportunity for public involvement to date include our online panel Talk Vancouver, Pop-Up City Hall and Doors Open Vancouver.
