Engineering Technologist V

Regular Full Time Position


The Engineering Department is seeking an Engineering Technologist V who will provide full life-cycle project management of large, multi-year capital projects.  The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary civil consultants, interdepartmentally within Engineering and with other Saanich departments such as Planning, Parks and Finance to identify stakeholder and partner requirements and ensure successful planning and implementation of projects.
The position resides in the Transportation Division but will be seconded to the Shelbourne Valley Short Term Mobility Improvements Project in the Project Management Office for a period of approximately 4 years or until project completion.
Other duties and responsibilities include:
  • Collecting, coordinating and controlling the project lifecycle scope, cost and schedule on select projects in the planning and implementation of capital construction projects related to infrastructure.
  • Developing and maintaining project documentation, such as: Project Charter, Project Execution Plan, Project Schedule, Risk Register, Stakeholder Plan, Cost and Progress Reports, etc.
  • Developing and building on established partnerships with internal and external stakeholders necessary to successfully deliver on project objectives; ensuring that stakeholders are identified, engaged, informed and given opportunities to shape project details as applicable.
  • Supporting and administering contracts and management of consultants retained to support the planning, design and implementation of capital works.
  • Coordinating and managing departmental review processes for project design drawings and standards.
  • Coordinating and managing the construction of internally and externally delivered civil infrastructure projects, with a focus on minimizing impacts to residents, business owners and the public.
Requirements include: Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent and eight years of directly related experience; registration or eligibility for registration in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC or in a professional capacity with Engineers  and Geoscientists BC; experience in project management including planning, detailed design, construction, and contract management of engineering projects. Project management Professional (PMP) certification may be considered an asset.  Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
This is a C.U.P.E.
