The Area Manager works collaboratively as a member of the City’s recreation department team to ensure the City’s recreation services reflect best practice, align with the needs and interests of Port Coquitlam residents, and contribute to the City’s strategic priorities. In addition to playing a key role in the staffing, programming, and opening of our 205,000 square foot community recreation complex now under construction, the Area Manager leads a team of talented recreation professionals in the delivery of a wide array of programs and services. The specific portfolio will be adjusted to best suit the new manager’s strengths and may include customer service staff and initiatives, ice arena and dry floor programs, inclusion and accessibility initiatives, food services, programs for adults and seniors, and business operations.

Our ideal candidate has:
  • A proven leadership ability that has influenced and yielded support with diverse staff teams and community groups;
  • A demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships within the organization and community;
  • Past experience in the design, construction and launch of new recreation facilities;
  • A track record of growing, developing and empowering staff who are excited about coming to work;
  • A drive to continually improve customer experiences and successfully engage community members;
  • An innovative approach to dynamic recreation programming and service delivery;
  • An ability to deliver compelling presentations and write impactful reports;
  • An under-graduate of graduate level degree in recreation, business or a related field, and a demonstrated commitment to learning and personal development;
  • 5 years plus of related management experience;
  • A positive, energetic, “can-do” approach to work; and
  • A good sense of humour and playful attitude.
