Main Purpose & Function 
Reporting to the Data and Operations Specialist, the Engineering Assistant II will work as part of a team to carry out a variety of administrative duties and technical tasks supporting the inspections staff at Kent Yards and to support operations. The Engineering Assistant II also liaises with Legal Services for the annual sidewalk inspection and snow removal programs.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintains various Branch databases for tracking purposes, summarizes data and provides reports.
  • Compiles information/data from materials reports, inspection reports and/or lab reports. 
  • Summarizes data producing production reports and operational reports.
  • Provides reports for legal services.
  • Logs, updates and closes public service requests.
  • Provides stats summaries of production data.
  • Reviews and revises reports for compliance with relevant standards and specifications for the City, MMCD, ASTM, or applicable international standards
  • Sets up a tracking system for materials, equipment, parts, and maintenance.
  • Sets up a filing and/or workflow of documents using City’s VanDocs guidelines.  
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned
Education and Experience:
  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical courses related to the work
  • Some experience as an Engineering Assistant I
 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of high school mathematics and familiarity with engineering practices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with other staff, owners, contractors, and members of the public.
  • Ability to collect, organize and analyze data and to prepare clear, well written reports, diaries and records.
  • Ability to problem solve, identify creative solutions, and show leadership in new initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to meet project completion deadlines on a consistent basis.
