Community Bus Operator
Permanent Part-Time & Casual

West Vancouver Transit (Blue Bus) is calling for applications from drivers wishing to be considered for casual and Permanent Part-Time Community Bus Operators. The Community Bus Operator is a key representative of a transit organization rich in history, dedicated to customer service, safety, and reliability. Community Bus Operators must be capable of accomplishing multiple tasks in a complex environment while demonstrating superior communication skills to deal effectively with the public. While working under established policies and procedures, Community Bus Operators work closely with departmental staff and must be able to exercise discretion and sound judgement. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Safely operating a transit vehicle from our fleet of buses in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Act of the Province of British Columbia, regulations and municipal bylaws, as well as policies and procedures as required by the transit department;
- Demonstrating courtesy and attention to passengers’ comfort and safety;
- Providing general information and assistance to passengers regarding routes, schedules and fares as required;
- Collecting and monitoring of fares, transfers, tickets and passes;
- Maintaining a high standard of personal appearance including the care and wearing of uniforms issued to the operator; and
- Performing other duties as required
Applications will be accepted from those with a minimum Class 4 unrestricted Driver’s Licence, exemplary driving and accident record, proven experience in customer service/hospitality, and adaptable to a flexible work schedule. The successful candidate will be required to supply a Police Information and Vulnerability Sector Check and a copy of their credentials; a driver’s abstract and claims history which demonstrates a history of safe, reliable legal driving. All District of West Vancouver employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of hire All shifts will start and end on the North Shore.

Union (ATU) – Permanent Part-Time & Casual
Hours of Work:
Permanent Part-Time: 28-34 hours per week
Casual: Up to 24 hours per week
Shift times are variable according to shift demands.
Rate of Pay:
$25.03 per hour for the first 6 months after training - $26.91 per hour thereafter (2021 Rates)
