ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are seeking a highly motivated, team-orientated individual to join our Ministry of Environmental Protection & Natural Resources team as a Natural Resources Consultation Manager. Reporting to the Senior Director, the primary purpose of the Natural Resources Consultation Manager is to engage with: industry and government, various MNBC Regions, Chartered communities, Citizens, and other organizations throughout various consultation processes in British Columbia.
MNBC desires a practical consultation process, with government and industrial partners, that avoids or minimizes impacts on Métis rights and land use and creates economic opportunities for Métis Citizens. Our objective is to build a Métis specific approach which will improve working relationships throughout the province. The recently updated MNBC consultation process is intended to produce better communication, stronger relationships, and easier resolution of issues between government, industry, and MNBC, including Chartered Communities. Following the MNBC Consultation Guidelines, the Natural Resources Consultation Manager will assist MNBC to achieve these goals.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, lead, and participate in consultation engagement sessions, meetings, and submissions. This includes Chartered Communities, industry, and government.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other MNBC staff, department or ministries as required.
- Prepare project work plans including procedures, proposals, briefing notes, progress reports and presentations.
- Participate in any future hiring, training, and supervision of any assigned natural resources staff, providing clear definitions of responsibility and levels of authority. This will also include performance evaluation and goal setting, organizing workflow and managing deadlines, and providing constructive feedback and coaching.
- Monitor progress towards achievement and adjusting or adapting plans to ensuring project(s) deadlines are met.
- Regularly keep Senior Director or other project supervisors apprised of all pertinent issues, information for effective decision-making regarding the project.
- Identify opportunities for innovation or cost reductions strategies in project(s) completion.
- Manage project budgets and provide cost-to-completion projections.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Bachelor’s Degree or professional credential in biological, natural resources or consultation related field, or subject matter expertise.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in project planning, implementation and/or management.
- Combination of relevant experience, education, and training will be considered.
- Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in B.C.
- High level of proficiency in project area and ability to achieve project goals.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in leading work groups.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including Word, Excel and other database/software required by the role.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed to help ensure the efficient operation of MNBC
- There will be a need to attend meetings and events which may require work and travel outside of the normal business hours.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s license and access to reliable personal vehicle for work purposes
