Invasive Plant Control Technician

Full Time Position

The Cariboo Regional District invites qualified applicants to apply for the full-time position of Invasive Plant Control Technician located in the Central Cariboo.
 
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Invasive Plant Management Coordinator the self-motivated and innovative incumbent will assist with the development of strategic plans and annual reports; supervision of seasonal invasive plant management staff and contractors; administration of invasive plant management data; maintenance of supplies and equipment; implementation of educational campaigns and enforcement policies; provision of public enquiry responses; and performance of tasks as requested related to the delivery of invasive plant management.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Must have post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Science, Biology, or Ecology or a minimum of 2 year’s relevant work experience in planning and/or implementing invasive plant management activities. In addition, preference will be given to candidates that possess familiarity and experience with the provincial Invasive Alien Plant Program database. Furthermore, the candidate will hold a valid BC Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate for Industrial Vegetation and Noxious Weeds, as well as a valid Pesticide Dispenser’s Certificate for Commercial Pesticides; Level 1 First Aid Certification; and, have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
 
WAGE:
The rate of pay for this BCGEU position is $28.84 per. A standard 90-day probation period will apply.
 
HOURS OF WORK:
Nine-day fortnight starts beginning of October to the end of April, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with a 45-minute unpaid lunch and every other Friday or Monday off (day will be determined at time of offer) as a designated day off (DDO). From May to the end of September, Monday to Thursday, from 7:00 am to 4:15 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Travel within the regional district will be required. The incumbent may be required to adjust their work schedule and work a non-standard schedule which could include working some evenings or weekends, they would be informed in advance of their work schedule change.
