Position Overview
The Sunshine Coast Regional District is currently inviting applications for the position of Transit Driver (Casual). Under the general direction of the Transportation Superintendent the Transit and Handy Dart Driver provides regularly scheduled bus service to customers on the lower Sunshine Coast. Service is provided to meet the expectations of customers to the greatest possible extent, with due regard for safety and the schedule of service. The Service Person works under the general supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor and the day-to-day work direction of mechanics on duty and cleans, washes and pre-trips Transit Buses.
Compensation and Hours of Work
The appropriate hourly rate will be received for the work as assigned:
- Transit Driver (Conventional) $33.79
- HandyDart Driver $31.24
- Service Person (Transit Assistant) $28.88
This is a bargaining unit position supplemented by an additional 4% vacation pay and then 5% statutory holiday pay after 30 days of employment. After 90 days of employment, casual workers are eligible for up to 5 paid sick days for scheduled work and will then receive 6% vacation pay after successfully passing a 4-month probationary period. Casual workers are also eligible to join the General Casual List for potential work opportunities elsewhere within the SCRD. To meet on-call requirements, candidates must be available to report to work on short notice for any shift, 7 days per week. Transit hours of operation: 4:00 am through 1:00 am. Casuals relieve employees who are on sick leave, leave of absence, vacation, or peak work periods for overload situations; there are no regularly scheduled hours nor any guarantee of hours. Appointment is subject to successful completion of a road test and a RCMP Criminal Records Search including a vulnerable sector check.
