Position Overview
The Sunshine Coast Regional District is currently inviting applications for the position of casual Lifeguard I, II & Instructor Guard at the Sechelt and Gibsons Aquatic Facilities. We are looking for a friendly and service-oriented person to join our team! Working within a community development philosophy, the Lifeguard I provides life-guarding services to the patrons and performs administrative and janitorial duties. In addition to the above, the Lifeguard II acts as senior shift lifeguard. The Instructor Guard leads and instructs groups and individuals in swimming and fitness programs.
Compensation and Hours of Work
This is a casual bargaining unit position with the following wage rates:
- Lifeguard I - $24.70
- Instructor Guard - $26.71
- Lifeguard II - $30.05
Wages are supplemented by an additional 4% vacation pay and then 5% statutory holiday pay after 30 days of employment. After 90 days of employment, casual workers are eligible for up to 5 paid sick days for previously scheduled work and will then receive 6% vacation pay after successfully passing a four-month probationary period. Casual workers are eligible to join the General Casual List for potential work opportunities elsewhere within the SCRD. And finally, all SCRD employees have access to the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) upon hire, for free, confidential counselling services.
Please note: Incumbents may be required to work evenings, early mornings, weekdays, and weekends. Casual work is short notice relief work, 7 days a week, relieving employees who are on sick leave, leave of absence, vacation, or peak work periods for overload situations. Incumbents must be able to work at both the Gibsons and Sechelt Aquatic Facilities. There are no regularly scheduled hours nor any guarantee of hours. Appointment is subject to a satisfactory RCMP Criminal Records Check.
