Organizational Profile
The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is located on the beautiful central east coast of Vancouver Island, incorporating the municipalities of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach, and seven unincorporated electoral areas that lie between Cassidy to the south and Bowser to the north. The RDN is situated within the traditional territories of several First Nations, including Snuneymuxw, Snaw-Naw-As and Qualicum First Nations and recognizes their rich cultural heritage. They benefit from inclusive First Nations governance with strong collaboration at all levels in addressing important and pressing issues.

About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager of Development and Emergency Services, the Manager, Fire Services provides oversight and support to RDN rural volunteer fire departments provided directly by the RDN, and through agreement with societies and member municipalities. The position effectively oversees, coordinates, and implements E911 and the NextGen911 transition. The Manager, Fire Services will provide leadership and expertise for asset management, fire hall replacement and apparatus replacement/purchase, including contract development and oversight, and request for proposals. The Manager, Fire services will develop, oversee, and manage the volunteer fire services and regional fire program budgets.

This is an incredible opportunity for a collaborative fire services leader with a passion for community service. The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as fire,  emergency management, business administration or related field; with  a minimum of ten (10) years related experience in fire services operations combined with five (5) years of supervisory experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience working within a local or regional government setting and understanding of different governance structures within regional and local governments and society operated firehalls. Excellent project management skills and ability to analyze information to make recommendations is advised for this position. The successful candidate will have knowledge of all relevant legislation, including the Fire Safety Act, BC Structure Firefighter Training Standard, and other local and provincial legislation. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and a Criminal Record Check are required as a condition of employment.

The salary range for this position is $122,265 to $129,110 annually depending on the successful candidate’s experience, education, and proficiency in relation to the position.
