Our Community Planning and Housing Department has a temporary full-time opportunity for a Planning Assistant 2 to join their team for up to 2 years (renewable annually). This is technical and administrative planning work to support the Community Planning and Housing team. In this role you will work with databases and statistics and conduct analysis in a variety of areas including housing. You will assist in monitoring progress on key initiatives and be involved in new projects such as the Official Community Plan. In addition, you can expect to have exposure to the breadth of portfolios in Community Planning which encompass housing, social planning, heritage, employment lands, public engagement, child care, regional planning and more.
 
The successful applicant will have:
  • A good understanding of the various components of community planning.
  • Sound knowledge of data collection, modelling and analysis and an ability to generate reports from sources such as Statistics Canada and BC Stats.
  • The ability to describe, illustrate, and condense information and data into reports, presentations and other formats. Familiarity with urban and graphic design principles and mapping presentation methods are desired.
  • Excellent research skills and an understanding of planning principles, processes and legislation.
  • A high level of competency with Excel, and a working knowledge of other data visualization software (such as Illustrator, In Design, Sketch Up, and Photoshop) will also assist your success in this role.
 
The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, with the ability to perform various tasks under minimal supervision and be a team player with innovative approaches to problem solving. This is an excellent opportunity to use and grow your planning skills, while being supported by a working supervisor and department manager.
 
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have post-secondary education in a relevant field such as planning, geography, land economics or urban design. Work experience in these areas would be an asset. An equivalent combination of training and experience will also be considered. A valid BC Drivers Licence is required.

Salary:
The pay range for this unionized position is $36.08 to $42.45 per hour (2024 rates) based on a 35-hour work week.
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week
