Abstract:
This document compiles eight case studies from the North and Central Okanagan that illustrate and support the 2014 Biodiversity Conservation Strategy. All case studies are examples of how the strategy can be used to further biodiversity conservation within the region. Case studies range from the implementation of biodiversity conservation in official community plans, to environmental management area projects, to habitat area mapping and designation. One specific case covers projects on agricultural lands. The case studies will be useful to local government officials interested in concrete examples of how they might implement biodiversity conservation in their community. It should be read in concert with the 2014 Okanagan Biodiversity Strategy (which covers additional tools like conservation covenants, large lot zoning, conservation funds, and security deposits).
