Capital Projects Communications/Engagement Program

Short Description:
In 2013, the City of Kamloops adopted a public engagement policy and handbook to support City Council and Senior Management’s desire to improve involvement and decision-making with its residents and stakeholders, and to build on painful lessons learned from past projects that lacked consistent or adequate stakeholder engagement. When planning began for two major capital projects* scheduled for summer 2015 construction, staff referred to the policy and handbook and developed a Capital Projects Communications and Engagement program  (CPC&EP) to ensure a robust and meaningful engagement process well in advance of construction.  The capital projects team includes a dedicated City staff member whose primary focus is to develop and execute the CPC&EP based on transparency, broad based stakeholder involvement from project design through to completion, and proactive and timely communication.   (* Bridge rehabilitation project (April-October 2015), and a major arterial road widening project (May-September 2015).)
