Short Description:
On July 2, 2014, the City of Coquitlam launched a new solid waste collection program with widespread changes to its residential curbside collection service.  In support of this major change, the City developed a creative, comprehensive, easy-to-understand, multi-media and multilingual public education and outreach strategy through a campaign called “Separate Your Waste”.    The tactics included:
• paid print and digital advertising,
• targeted earned media,
• mailed notices and information packages to approximately 25,000 households,
• displays at civic facilities,
• outreach at community events and high traffic community locations,
• use of social media networks,
• a dedicated call centre providing residents access to information, and
• multi-lingual communication to reach our diverse community.

The campaign effectively communicated the extensive scope of the program changes and resulted in an overall successful rollout which engaged residents and achieved it goals on time and within budget.
