COMPENSATION $ 41,752.89 - $43,005.48 per annum (NEE: 9) to $ 49, 096.42 – $50, 569.31 per annum (NEE: 15)
* the above rates subject to education and / or experience or a combination of both.
STATUS 1 - Fulltime Permanent 35-hours per week

Malahat Nation represents approximately 350+ members with two reserve lands located on the western shore of Saanich Inlet, south of the village of Mill Bay, about 40-kilometres north of Victoria, British Columbia. Malahat Nation is seeking a dedicated and hard-working Economic Development Clerk with experience working with Indigenous communities in economic development to join our Economic Development team! PURPOSE: Reporting to the Major Projects Program Lead, the Economic Development Clerk will help advance economic growth for Malahat Nation. The Economic Development team is dedicated to upholding Malahat values such as promoting harmony with the environment while pursuing prosperity for future Malahat generations. The successful applicant will help the Economic Development team with community engagement, communications, administrative support, and other tasks to help grow Malahat Nation’s economic pursuits in alignment with community values. This position is a fulltime permanent position, based in the office, with possibility of a hybrid working arrangement. Occasional travel may be required

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in training and staff meetings
  • Assist with creating community engagement materials including posters, newsletters, social media posts, and blog posts
  • Help with organizing and hosting community engagement events
  • Maintain a respectful and open attitude towards Indigenous culture and history, integrating cultural perspectives into economic development efforts
  • Facilitate cultural events and activities that promote Indigenous heritage and traditions within the economic development context
  • Participate as a representative of Malahat Nation at meetings, conferences, and other events as needed
  • Perform administrative tasks including data entry, document editing, communication support, and procurement support
  • Gathering and documenting community input
  • Demonstrate sound judgement and excellent organizational abilities
  • Promote safety and inclusion
  • Promote teamwork and good work ethic
  • Work efficiently with other departments at Malahat Nation
  • Help create a nurturing learning environment for other members of the team
  • Multi-tasking, working in a fast-paced environment and managing workload with accuracy and attention to detail within deadlines and minimum supervision
  • Coordinating travel for Economic Development staff
  • Communicating with and advising staff from various levels
  • Other duties as required


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Grade 12 graduation (Dogwood or BC Adult Graduation Diploma) or an acceptable combination of related education, training and experience
  • Experience working with a First Nation organization
  • Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous and Coast Salish history and culture required
  • First Aid certification is beneficial
  • Class 5 Driver’s License is beneficial
  • Successful Criminal Record Check (CRC) required
  • Familiarity with Provincial and Federal laws, regulations, and policies related to economic development and natural resource management is beneficial
  • Effective December 3, 2021 full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Malahat Nation. All individuals must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of their employment
