EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST

The West Vancouver Community Services Department is currently seeking Exercise Physiologists to join our highly qualified team.  Reporting to the Health & Fitness Program Coordinator, the  Exercise Physiologist works in our Active Rehabilitation studio prescribing  clinical exercise in a group setting to clients with chronic diseases and comorbidities.  The ideal candidate will bring experience, knowledge, and skills to support our active rehabilitation clients with their health management.  As an  Exercise Physiologist, the candidate will use scientific rationale to perform clinical exercise testing, exercise prescription, physical activity counseling, exercise supervision, and health education to assist in the recovery of illness, and prevent or manage chronic disease.

As an integral part of our Health & Fitness team, our Exercise Physiologist will work to promote and deliver exceptional programs and services to our community

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform initial consultations/assessments with new participants, consulting with clients to understand their needs and goals
  • Designing  safe and effective individualized programs for each participant based on diagnosis, clinical exercise testing, and recommendations from Physicians/Physical Therapists
  • Modify exercise programs as needed to ensure client progress
  • Observe and analyze participants to ensure safe and proper exercise levels
  • Collect, monitor, and record pre and post exercise blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen saturation levels
  • Track progress of individual clients and maintain excellent records
  • Mentor other personal trainers and kinesiologists


Required qualifications:

  • CSEP or ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist
  • St. John Standard First Aid Certification (or equivalent / higher certification), CPR Certificate and AED Certification


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with special populations, including but not limited to: cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation, osteoarthritis,Parkinson’s and/or stroke
  • Minimum one year experience in the health and wellness field working with special populations
  • British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists (BCAK) Registered kinesiologist

The successful candidate will be required to supply a criminal record check and a copy of their credentials.

Position Status:
Non-Union - Casual

Hours of Work:
Hours and days of work may vary; early mornings, days, evenings and weekends, approximately 1-10 hours per week

Rate of Pay:
$31-$38 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
This position offers a competitive wage based on experience and qualifications
