Senior Financial Analyst


Position Summary and Key Responsibilities.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst provides departmental financial support services: departmental budgeting support, funder reporting support, financial statement analysis, accounting advice, and system training and support.
 
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance Tzeachten’s policies, standards, practices, and procedures, as directed by the CAO. Demonstrates strong cultural sensitivity with a deep respect for Ch’íyáqtel First Nation culture, traditions language and protocols.
 
Position highlights:

  • Assists the Director of Finance in overseeing the accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, analysis, and preparation of the income/budget and variance reports.
  • Monitors and analyzes accounting data and produces reports representative of this data.
  • Develops and maintains data and financial models to support investment decisions and cost savings initiatives.
  • Assists departments in budget preparation and monitors variances between actual and budgeted expenses.
  • Collaborates with Payroll and departments to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Prepares funding grant applications.
  • Ensures funding reports for Indigenous Services Canada and other funders are completed as required.
  • Reconciles cash flow following the funding agreements.
  • Provides reporting on capital projects.
  • Prepares VISA reconciliations and provides maintenance and controls.
  • Provides financial oversight to the Community Assistance Benefit (CAB) program.
  • Oversees payroll and benefits payments, ensuring compliance with related legislation.
  • Evaluates financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and investment activities and makes recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets, and other financial control functions to the Director of Finance.
  • Communicates effectively and ensures clarity of roles and responsibilities with department staff.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are understood and followed by staff.
  • Maintains files and records of all Finance documentation following Tzeachten records management standards.
  • Remains up to date in the requirements of First Nations financial reporting.
  • Follows and promotes the proper use of the Finance Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Provides back-up for essential duties of other finance staff who are on vacation or leave.

 
Qualifications

  • Completed or actively pursuing an advanced bookkeeping certificate or designation (CPA, CAFM)
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of workplace accounting experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Satisfactory Police Information Check.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and acceptable Driver’s Abstract.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside clientele and agencies.
  • Ability to exercise and model a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including conflict resolution.
  • Strong writing skills including report writing.
  • Ability to develop plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and manage work plans, budgets, and program reporting.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office. Xyntax experience preferred.
  • A desire to grow within the finance department.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Understand Federal and Provincial laws which protect data collection.
  • Strong work ethic, integrity, self-motivated, resourceful, and punctual.
  • Ability to be both a team player and work independently with little or no supervision.

 
Work is performed in an office and in various community locations. Salary Range: $73,855 - $94,294
