Senior Planner – Climate Action


Regular Full-Time ($56.33/hour - $62.50/hour – 2024 Rates)

The Community Building & Planning Services Department invites applications from skilled and ambitious candidates for a newly created Senior Planner – Climate Action role. Responsible for leading and coordinating municipal climate action priorities to advance the District’s response to climate change through policy and development and implementation, this position represents an opportunity to play an active part in spearheading climate action in Oak Bay. If you have strong project management skills, have passion for climate action, energy planning, planning policy, community planning, and want to contribute value to our busy yet relaxed office environment, we’d love to hear from you.
 
As the District’s Senior Planner – Climate Action, you are a generalist who will focus on coordinating municipal climate action priorities and advance the District’s response to climate change through policy development and implementation. In addition, depending on your skills and interest, you may also support the development, facilitation, and implementation of other Council Priority Projects including infill housing, village area planning and responding to regulatory changes at the provincial level. Given the small size of our team, you will have ample room to take initiative in shaping and carrying out this program. As an experienced planner you have a sound in-depth understanding of climate change and sustainability issues, as well as affinity with housing policy issues, political sensitivity. You are also able to apply creativity and innovative thinking.
 
Our ideal candidate has a university degree in Urban Planning or a similar field, as well as a minimum of 6 years  of  progressive  responsibility  in  professional  climate  action,  preferably  in   a   local  government environment. Membership or eligibility for membership to the Planning institute of BC (PIBC) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is also required. This position is represented by CUPE Local 374.
