Position Type: Regular Part Time (summer 37.5 hrs/week & winter 22.5 hrs/week)

The Bylaw Enforcement Officer is a part of our development services team and reports to the Development Services Manager. This position involves the enforcement of all District bylaws, including traffic, noise, animal control, unsightly premises, water, parks and burning bylaws. The Bylaw Enforcement Officer will be required to operate a vehicle in the course of patrols as well as walk, sometimes at length, to patrol the parks and various events.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Level 1 Bylaw Officer training from the Justice Institute of BC.
  • Minimum of 1 year bylaw enforcement experience in a municipal setting.
  • Qualifications to be a sworn peace officer.
  • Valid BC driver’s license and abstract.
  • Must possess exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain and interpret bylaws.
  • Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to prioritize workloads, work independently with minimal guidelines and supervision, and to perform tasks under periodic work pressure.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to prepare written reports and make verbal presentations.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
