The District of Kent is offering an exciting opportunity for a Bylaw Compliance and Enforcement Officer II. The incumbent in this position will assist management to achieve an efficient operation in the Bylaw Enforcement Section of the Development Services Department. Under the general direction of the Director of Development Services the Bylaw Compliance and Enforcement Officer will:

  • Perform inspectional and regulatory work related to the enforcement of District of Kent bylaws, involving extensive contact with the public and liaison with the RCMP, Health Department, and other agencies.
  • Administer all regulatory bylaws including traffic regulations pertaining to the Motor Vehicles Act and parking infractions; Animal Control; and Business Licences.
  • Investigate and process complaints concerning infractions and violations.
  • Conduct field investigations on associated violations and attempt to gain voluntary compliance to bylaws through negotiations, notices, letters, and other means as required.
  • Issue bylaw violation notices, tickets, and warning tickets as appropriate.
  • Prepare correspondence relating to bylaw violations and business licences.
  • Enforce zoning and any other regulatory bylaws as necessary.
  • Prepare and present cases of municipal bylaw infractions and represent the District at adjudication hearings and court.

 
Requirements include:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or proven equivalent;
  • Successful completion of the Justice Institute of BC’s Bylaw Compliance, Enforcement & Investigative Skills Levels 1 and 2 courses; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience such as a Peace Officer or in Law Enforcement; and
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience in inspection or investigation work and/or law enforcement.


Pay and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Agreement, CUPE Local 458. The 2024 post- probation wage rate for this position is $40.47 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package.
