Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00AM – 7:30PM

This is recreation leadership work in the organization and implementation of a variety of social, cultural or recreational activities within a designated area of the Municipality. An incumbent of this class prepares and leads individual program plans and schedules for day to day operations of the recreational facility and for other indoor and outdoor supervised activities. Directs the implementation of program activities; provides leadership, coaching or instruction; assesses program results and recommends changes as necessary in general programs. A Recreation Leader 2 promotes interest and participation in program activities and establishes and maintains close liaison with community groups and the general public; reviews program offerings and makes recommendations as to new programs; as well as enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behaviour and safety are maintained in the facilities or areas serviced. In this position, an incumbent assists a supervisor in coordinating and administering the operations and programs of a specific area within the facility; participates in the recruitment of and gives guidance and instruction to part-time recreation program, ancillary staff and contractual instructors engaged in instructional or leadership tasks; evaluates same and makes recommendations for hiring, rehiring or dismissal of same; recruits, trains, directs and evaluates volunteers. In the absence of a supervisor a Recreation Leader 2 assumes responsibility for the operation and security of a recreation facility. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of two year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; St. John's First Aid and CPR Certificates are desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices along with the knowledge of the recreational, social, educational and cultural interests, requirements, and resources of the area or Centre served. An incumbent will have the knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and policies governing the work performed; ability to organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational program activities; identify and assess recreational, cultural and social needs and to plan, develop and evaluate programs for a specific area within the recreation facility. Assists in coordinating and administering operations and programs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractual instructors, volunteers, groups, associations and the general public and to prepare and maintain records, reports and promotional material related to the work. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
