The Public Safety and Social Development Department with the City of Chilliwack, a growing and vibrant community of 100,000 located 100 kilometres east of Vancouver, is seeking a talented professional to fill the position of Social Development Specialist.

Are you the one we’re looking for?
In this dynamic role you will provide administrative support for the Reaching Home Program and other strategic initiatives of the City, including the Homelessness Action Plan and the Community Safety Plan. You will be responsible for preparing agendas, reports, and other documentation, ensuring timely distribution of materials, and establishing, organizing, and maintaining project administration and accounting systems to ensure a high degree of transparency and accountability. You will assist the Reaching Home Community Advisory Board in all aspects of the Reaching Home program, including issuing requests for proposals, evaluating and prioritizing proposals, awarding contracts, and processing and organizing documentation related to the monitoring of projects.

You will represent the City in a professional manner, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff at various levels within the City, as well as external contacts from other government agencies, municipalities and committees. You will coordinate various activities, programs and projects; receive and process reports; assist with updates to the city website, verify and process amounts for payments, and attend Council meetings as required. You may also assist with administrative support and coverage for public safety related positions including, but not limited to, the Director of Public Safety and Social Development and the Social Development Coordinator, and other duties, including typing a variety of correspondence, minute taking, and working with critical issues which are confidential and sensitive in nature, as assigned.

We are looking for a driven individual who is knowledgeable of local and regional social issues, government programs, rules and regulations, by-laws. and legislation governing departmental operation. You will have an Undergraduate degree in the health or social sciences or other related discipline and a minimum of 4 years’ experience in program management or coordination. Experience working with government program administration and foundation and non-profit organizations would be considered an asset. You should also understand social program delivery related to housing policy and housing construction, homelessness, employment services, mental health and addictions, government funding practices, due diligence analysis, process and principles. Must also possess a valid BC Driver’s License.
