The City of New Westminster Parks and Recreation Department is seeking enthusiastic, friendly and outgoing individual(s) to develop and lead seasonal adult programs and/or workshops.  Recreation program themes could include cooking, baking, art, nature, gardening, sewing, language, wellness and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).  Program themes are conceptualized in collaboration with the Program Coordinator however, instructors are encouraged to think boldly and creatively about course ideas and curriculum development.

This opportunity requires a background in the program area, either through continued professional development or through completion of accredited programs along with a background in program instruction.   Duties will include developing curriculum upholding the high quality and professionalism in the City of New Westminster. 

Requirements include: 

  • Minimum 3 years of previous teaching experience. 
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of programs in community recreation facilities. 
  • Sound knowledge of teaching methods and group leadership techniques. 
  • Excellent supervisory and organizational skills. 
  • Continued professional development or completion of an accredited program.
  • Must be able to successfully pass and maintain a clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. 

Please note that these positions are for Fall programs starting in September 2024, but earlier opportunities may also be available.  In your application, please include your availability for Fall (September to December) and note any program themes you would be interested in instructing.
