Manager of Engineering
The City of Port Alberni is a community of over 19,000 people. Located centrally on Vancouver Island, we are a well-serviced and growing municipality that offers residents affordable west coast living, as well as proximity to oceans, lakes, rivers and mountains.
The City of Port Alberni is currently looking for a Manager of Engineering to join a progressive and dynamic organization that provides a full range of programs and services to taxpayers. Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure Services, this position will work closely with Operations to ensure the delivery of effective municipal systems. This position is responsible for supervisory, administrative and engineering work, including maintaining an effective municipal infrastructure plan.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and supervise the work of the Engineering team, providing leadership and technical support as required
- Prepare and manage annual Engineering Department and Capital Plan budgets
- Oversee and manage the long-term infrastructure plan for the City
- Oversee design work for engineering projects
- Coordinate and manage engineering work undertaken by consultants
- Oversee engineering record keeping, mapping, GIS and engineering-related permits
- Prepare reports, and attend Committee of the Whole or Council meetings as required
Qualifications & Experience:
- Completion of a degree in Engineering or a diploma of Technology in Civil Engineering
- Registration as a Professional Engineer or an Applied Science Technologist in the Province of BC
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in municipal engineering, including design work and administrative responsibility (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role
- Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership and teambuilding skills
- Previous experience in contract management and administration
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, administrative practices and techniques as applied to municipal engineering
- Valid BC Driver’s License
This is an exempt position, with a salary range of $105,479 - $121,030, a comprehensive benefit package and flex day work schedule. Qualified candidates may apply by forwarding a resume and cover letter by 4:30 pm on July 8, 2024:
