Power Line Technician

The District of Summerland has an excellent opportunity for two permanent full-time Power Line Technicians. Under the direction of the Director of Utilities, the successful candidates will have knowledge and experience in installing and repairing electrical distribution systems, transformers, conduits, vaults, feeders, services and other electrical equipment.

The District of Summerland is one of five municipalities in British Columbia to own and operate its own electrical utility. The District purchases and distributes energy to 6,200 residential, commercial and industrial customers within municipal boundaries utilizing two 8KV substations. System peak is around 20MVA. The utility distributes electricity; provides billing, collection, and customer service functions; and manages the operation, maintenance, and expansion of the distribution system.
 
Required Qualifications include:

  • Journeyman Powerline Technician Red Seal
  • A valid BC Driver's License — Class 3 with Air Endorsement
  • Level one first aid certificate.


Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of three years' experience in a similar position, and a Journeyman Electrician and/or Field Safety Representative certification would also be an asset.

Physical testing will be required prior to the final shortlist and interviews as this position requires sufficient strength and stamina to perform heavy manual work outdoors.

This is a full-time IBEW position with an hourly rate of $55.63 per hour and an exceptional benefits package including a municipal pension plan.
