Field Arborist


The City of Delta is seeking a reliable and motivated ISA Certified Arborist to work in a fast-paced role within municipal parks, grounds, and boulevards. Delta’s Field Arborists report to a Superintendent and Foreman of Urban Forestry while working alongside our growing team of Arborists and seasonal staff. In a team environment, the successful candidate will perform skilled technical work in many aspects of tree care with a commitment to safe work practices. Main duties will include structural pruning, removing, planning, and maintenance of street trees. Duties also include maintaining the nursery’s tree inventory, and the inspection and identification of trees that are diseased or pose a hazard to public safety, determining treatment, and undertaking emergency action as required. This role is also public-facing, with the incumbent answering questions and investigating complaints made by members of the public, and taking remedial action where necessary. The Field Arborist must have a considerable knowledge of tree species and the methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in arboriculture and urban forestry. Knowledge and use of spurless climbing systems and aerial lift trucks is considered an asset.

Required Certifications and Experience
Ideal candidates will have the following:

  • A valid Class 5 BC driver’s Licence; and
  • Certification as an Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture (min 3 years).


Additional Qualifications that Would be Considered an Asset

  • Completion of a diploma program in horticulture or arboriculture, OR a related apprenticeship program, as well have coursework completed in tree climbing and structural tree pruning;
  • Certification as a Tree Worker/Climber or Aerial Lift Specialist;
  • Possession of a Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ).
