Operations Manager


North Salt Spring Waterworks District is seeking a new Operations Manager.
 
Located in the beautiful Southern Gulf Islands, Salt Spring Island is a vibrant, active rural community and a great place to live. Surrounded by the Salish Sea, the area offers a year-round mild climate where the outdoor enthusiast can enjoy boating, kayaking, hiking and more. Amenities and services include excellent elementary and secondary schools, a hospital, library, renowned arts and culinary options, and a wide range of health and wellness retreats. Greater Victoria, the Cowichan Valley, and greater Vancouver are accessible from three different ferry terminals on the Island.
 
The mission of the NSSWD is “to provide potable water within the NSSWD boundaries in an efficient and sustainable manner.” This encompasses residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional users or approximately 5,500 people within the District boundaries. The NSSWD also operates two other improvement district water systems under contract. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Operations Manager manages all waterworks operations for that customer base, including water treatment plants, distribution systems, and related infrastructure. The Operations Manager provides advice and support to the Chief Administrative Officer and Board of Trustees on operations, planning, construction, and asset management. Furthermore, the Operations Manager will lead a team of trained and experienced staff; and participate in public and Board of Trustees’ meetings when necessary.
 
To succeed in this role, you must have a sound understanding of operational requirements in a local government setting. You possess the ability to work in a politically sensitive environment, think innovatively, lead change, and strive for continuous improvement. You have exceptional leadership and people management skills; and are able to work with a high degree of autonomy while recognizing the interconnectedness of your actions and decisions to the District as a whole.
 
Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Water Treatment Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of directly related experience in municipal waterworks operations.
  • Minimum 5 years proven experience in a managerial position.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and criminal record check.
  • EOCP Level III (3) or higher certification in water treatment and water distribution will be an asset.

 
Salary Range: $115,378 - $126,402
