Manager of Development Services

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Manager of Development Services is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the daily operations of Planning, Development, Economic Development, and Building Permitting services; this includes supervision of a Planning Technician and Building Official.  The Manager will also act as the District’s Approving Officer handling statutory duties and subdivision plan approval.  The work involves planning and coordinating the annual work programs and budgets and assisting in the development of long-term corporate plans.  This position is responsible for providing advice, preparing and presenting reports to Council, and making recommendations for amendments to bylaws, policies, and procedures.  This position is often involved in community-changing, complex, and highly sensitive decisions that are the subject of Council, community, and media attention.
 
This is an exciting time for the District of Lillooet – a time when the Manager will lead high-impact projects such as:

  • Lillooet’s Downtown Vitalization Project;
  • The District’s Zoning Bylaw Re-Write and Approvals;
  • Updating and Implementing Development Processes;
  • A Housing Needs Report Update; and,
  • An Official Community Plan Update.

 
The Manager is accountable for safe work practices through their practice of due diligence and their understanding of the role of WorkSafeBC and the statutory and regulatory requirements as they relate to their area of responsibility.  Promoting safety through active participation in all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety programs is required, as is regular inspections, safety meetings, investigations, and safety events.

The annual salary for this position is dependent upon the qualifications, experience, and certifications of the successful candidate but is anticipated to be in the range of $85,000-$90,000.  The District offers a flexible work schedule as well as a competitive vacation, professional development, a benefits package, and enrollment in the Municipal Pension Plan.
