Police Clerk II – Transcript Coordinator (Punjabi Specialist)

We are looking for dedicated and motivated individuals to fill the following unionized position:

The Police Clerk II – Transcript Coordinator (Punjabi Specialist) position is responsible for transcribing English and Punjabi audio and video recordings as well as coordinating the outsourcing of transcripts to meet Crown disclosure requirements.
 
Main Responsibilities:

  • Receive requests for transcription of audio files.
  • Prioritize and make decisions on what will be transcribed in house and what will be sent to outside contractors for transcription.
  • Record and maintain a log for transcripts completed in house as well as transcripts sent to outside contractors for transcription.
  • Transcribe statements including, but not limited to, victim statements, suspect statements, witness statements, 911 calls.
  • Accurately translate Punjabi statements (audio, video, written) into English; provide corresponding transcripts and Punjabi typesetting for Crown disclosure.
  • Provide copy of transcripts and audio to the Court Liaison in accordance with assigned diary dates.
  • Performs other related tasks as required.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Grade 12 supplemented by 2 or more years of experience as a translator. Preference to those with related post-secondary education.
  • Possess a sound knowledge of applicable computer applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong typing skills in both English and Punjabi
  • Demonstrated fluency in Punjabi, both oral and written. Other languages an asset.
  • Can grammatically and syntactically translate Punjabi to English, accurate in rendering the meaning, message and intent, in accordance with court transcript requirements.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral, in order to be effective in requesting and delivering information.
  • Preference given to those certified by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) or the Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (STIBC); certified in Punjabi translation. Other languages an asset.

Hourly Wage: $28.11/Hr. to $31.08/Hr.
