Wastewater Labourer II

Nature of the Position
The District of Sechelt is seeking a temporary, full-time Wastewater Labourer II on a contract basis. Reporting to the Chief Operator and under the general supervision of the Wastewater Manager, the Wastewater Labourer II is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the Dusty Road collections facility pursuant to District policies and procedures, WCB regulations and environmental regulations.
 
Essential Competencies
You must have worked a minimum of one year in general labouring, hold a valid Class 5 Drivers License (or inter- provincial equivalent); and live within 30 minutes driving time of the Dusty Road worksite. You must have the ability to work around wastewater; perform mechanical maintenance of equipment; provide recommendations; establish and maintain effective working relations with others; lift, carry, push and pull heavy loads; and perform other physically demanding work.

Educational qualifications include a Grade 12 (or equivalent); with confined space, WHMIS and biohazardous substances training certification preferred. You must be professional, responsive and possess a positive work attitude; strong mechanical skills; the ability to remain calm in stressful situations; and the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully one-on-one and in a group environment.

Preference is given to those who aspire to pursue a career in wastewater at the Sechelt Water Resource Centre. Post-secondary education in wastewater and/or BC EOCP Wastewater Operator Level I certification would be an asset.

Working Conditions
This is a temporary, full-time position within the BCGEU offered on a contract basis with the end date based on the return of the incumbent on leave. Wage for the position is set at Grid Level 6, $29.21 – $32.45 per hour plus 9.8% of the straight-time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave. Hours of work are from Monday to Friday 7 AM to 3 PM. Flexibility to work occasional overtime is  required. The District supports employment equity in accordance with the Human Rights Code of B.C.
