Community Services Assistant 2 – Surrey Nature Centre – Summer Day Camp Leader

SCOPE 
The Surrey Nature Centre (operated by the City of Surrey’s Urban Forestry section) offers nature-based programs and events for schools and the public with the goal of increasing awareness, appreciation, and stewardship of Surrey’s urban forest. This auxiliary position is based on a predicted 35-hour work week (Monday to Friday) from early June to August 30, 2024.
 
Successful candidates will have experience working with school-aged children; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, volunteers, staff, and the public; and have a creative and enthusiastic approach to their work.

RESPONSIBILITIES 
As a Summer Day Camp Leader at the Surrey Nature Centre, you will:

  • Deliver full-day, nature-themed day camps to children ages 6 – 12 years old.
  • Maintain program areas and equipment.
  • Follow City of Surrey Policies and Procedures.
  • Provide day camp participants with an active, safe, and stimulating environment.


QUALIFICATIONS 
Successful candidates will have:

  • Completed Grade 12, supplemented by one year of related work experience, or an equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience.
  • Current Occupational First Aid (or acceptable equivalent).
  • High 5 certification (or willing to obtain).

Pay Grade: Schedule D
Hourly Rate: $23.85

This position requires completion of a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
