Scope
We’re looking for a motivated and hardworking Groundskeeper 2 to join our team. This position performs technical tasks in planning, coordinating, and delivering work related to the management of the Cloverdale Fairgrounds and other Civic Facilities.

Union - CUPE Local 402 – Regular Full-Time
 
Responsibilities

  • Works on a variety of projects and tasks to support operations at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds such as gardening, turf maintenance, litter control, weeding, grading, pruning, plant installation, snow removal and ice control.  
  • Supports City of Surrey events and programs as required.
  • Provides supervision to junior staff at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds during day-to-day operations and events.
  • Interacting with the public, handling questions and complaints in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Assists in administrating contracts for Parks Division work.
  • Assists in preparing technical reports and maintains records.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
  • The successful candidate may expect to work 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, in addition to evenings and weekends as required.

 
Qualifications
The successful candidate is required to meet one of the following criteria:

  • Completion of grade 12, supplemented by successful completion of five additional relevant courses from an approved post-secondary education institution in any of the following course areas (Horticulture, Turfculture, Plant Biology, Arboriculture, Landscape Maintenance, & Landscape Installation/Design). Plus 2 years recent experience in landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction..
  • Completion of Grade 12 and a Technical Certificate Program (one year full-time) from an approved post-secondary institution, supplemented by 18 months of recent experience in landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction.
  • Completion of a diploma program from an approved post-secondary institution, with a minimum of 6 months recent experience in landscape maintenance and/or landscape construction.

 
You must also:

  • have a valid BC Driver’s License with a safe driving record
  • be physically able to carry work of a heavy manual nature in all weather conditions is an asset.
  • Pesticide Applicator’s License – to be obtained before the completion of probation period.

 
Applicants under consideration will be required to provide proof of qualifications and consent to a Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
