Main Purpose and Function
Represents Engineering Services in monitoring and enforcing lane closures and traffic management plans in relation to construction, filming, and special events, for both internal and external users. Reviews and makes recommendations on traffic management plans to meet objectives of the City’s Transportation plan; ensuring that traffic impacts are limited and that meet municipal, provincial, and federal standards.
Specific Duties/Responsibilities
- Monitors daily traffic impacts on the City’s street network due to construction, filming, and special events
- Reports out on traffic impacts to internal and external stakeholders
- Inspect implementation of City accepted traffic plans
- Enforces violations of traffic management plans and construction sites set up that do not have proper permits or permission
- Provides support for internal and external crews when implementing traffic management plans
- Reviews internal and external detailed engineering drawings and traffic management plans
- Makes recommendations and revises engineering drawings and traffic management plans
- Develops traffic management and sign plans as well as custom sign designs
- Coordinates competing street use interests
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Completion of Grade 12
- A post-secondary diploma in Engineering, Transportation or other relevant area of study, supplemented with some related courses and experience in engineering (transportation) or an equivalent combination of training or experience.
- Traffic control person certification and experience
- Experience developing and implementing traffic management plans
- Violence prevention/Conflict avoidance
- AutoCAD, MapInfo, Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of electronic filing systems, such as VanDocs
- Proven ability to use Microsoft Office applications, Excel and Word in particular, but also PowerPoint
- Strong understanding of the City’s transportation network
- A valid driver’s license
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Working knowledge of the City’s street system, transportation policies and regulations, the Street and Traffic Bylaw, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the 2020 MOTI TMM
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with internal and external contacts
- Ability to problem solve with accuracy and detail
- Ability to research and analyse information to make technical recommendations
- Ability to work well in a team and business environment with little or no supervision
- Ability to work under tight timelines and handle multiple tasks
Candidates must attach the following records and satisfy the City’s driving requirements to be considered for this role:
- Copy of your three-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 30 days of this posting
- Copy of your three-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 30 days of this posting
- If you have less than three years driving experience in BC, a request must be made for out of province/country abstract and claims history
