REPORTS TO Housing Administrator
START As Soon As Possible
COMPENSATION $ 31.47 - $ 32.42 per hour (NEE: 15)* the above rates subject to education and / or experience or a combination of both.
STATUS 1 - Fulltime Term | 35-hours per week

Malahat Nation represents approximately 350+ members with two reserve lands located on the western shore of Saanich Inlet, south of the village of Mill Bay, about 40-kilometres north of Victoria, British Columbia. Malahat Nation is seeking a dedicated and hard-working Housing Coordinator with experience working with Indigenous communities in Housing related initiatives to join our Infrastructure & Capital Projects: Housing Department! PURPOSE: Reporting to the Housing Administrator, the Housing Coordinator will provide tenant and administrative support to the Malahat Housing Department. This is a community facing position and require frequent interaction with the Malahat Nation community. This position is a full time 1-year term position that works in the office, with minimal local travel as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the execution of the Malahat Nation Housing Policy
  • Provide supports to tenants residing in Malahat Nation housing on reserve
  • Support the assessments of Malahat Nation housing related to renovation and health & safety inspections
  • Provide mentorship to the Housing Intern related to general housing duties and responsibilities
  • Ensure all rental agreements are up to date and assist with rental payment arrangements
  • Assist in ensuring that the Nation owned housing units are kept in a safe and healthy condition, with special emphasis on preventative maintenance
  • Review and prioritize housing maintenance request forms and organize the related work to be completed through the Operations and Maintenance department
  • Support with the scheduling and minutes of the Housing Committee as per Malahat Nation Housing Policy
  • Maintain appropriate file management system in accordance with Malahat Nations internal systems and processes and any applicable authorities (funding agencies)
  • Support with communication, funding applications, and reporting with relation to housing from various funders including ISC, CMHC, United Way, and BC Housing
  • Assist with applications for renovation supports for qualifying houses
  • Assist in and verify services performed by contracted service companies as directed
  • Assist with the completion of various reports related to housing
  • Prepare general correspondence and reports as required
  • Prepare proposals for various housing programming as required
  • Other duties as required


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Certificate, or Diploma, and / or training in First Nations Housing Management or a related field preferred; an acceptable combination of related education, training and experience is required
  • Experience working in a First Nations community and a willingness to learn about Malahat culture, customs, and traditions is an asset
  • Criminal Record Check (CRC) required
  • Valid BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle required
  • Effective December 3, 2021 full vaccination against COVID-19 is required to be eligible for employment at Malahat Nation. All individuals must show Proof of Vaccination as a mandatory condition of their employment


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, coaching, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Time management with the ability to multitask different tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of Malahat Nation programs and processes
  • Must be self-motivated with good communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of Malahat Nation internal departments and programs an asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites programs
