The Fraser Valley Regional District, located in Chilliwack, is surrounded by mountains, rivers, and parks. We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, independent individual to fill the full-time position of Parks Technician. Reporting to the Manager of Parks, the successful candidate will contribute to resource conservation management and efficient operation of regional parks by providing assistance and support to Parks Assistants, contractors, and volunteers; inspecting parks, facilities, and services; implementing effective preventative maintenance programs and undertaking general facilities maintenance; supplying open communication with other agencies; developing and leading interpretive programs and lectures; and reviewing and providing recommendations to improve current park information including signage, website, brochure, and social media content.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Post-secondary two-year Technician’s Diploma in fish, wildlife and recreation or related discipline plus  minimum two years experience in the field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Thorough understanding of safety policies and procedures and the ability to direct others in an emergency
  • Proficient skill in the latest computer technology and programs
  • Knowledge of the vegetation and wildlife of the Fraser Valley
  • Knowledge of local community interest groups and their respective issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills which include the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly, and write in a concise manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the organization
  • Ability to work independently and without supervison
  • Ability to solve problems quickly by determining the issue and responding appropriately
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s Licence


The start rate for this full-time Union position is $29.48 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package. Upon successful completion of the required six-month probationary period, the rate will increase to $34.69 per hour.
