Maintenance Engineering Technician

Salary Range/ Wage Rate: PG T25 $3,205.95 - $3,785.23 bi-weekly
 
Our Liquid Waste Services Department is seeking a Maintenance Engineering Technician who will support maintenance engineers and trades staff in delivering reliability-centered maintenance across municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.
 
You are: detail-oriented, confident working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and familiar with reliability principles. You have experience with electromechanical equipment and working alongside engineers and trades staff.

This role:

  • Reviews and modifies the preventative maintenance programs based on asset criticality and lifecycle considerations for resource optimization, data accuracy and documentation control; enters asset inventory and associated data into the computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Collects and prepares project material to be used by staff to complete Maintenance Task Analysis, Short Form Task Review, Asset Condition and other maintenance reviews and reports.
  • Reviews maintenance management data to determine equipment that is being over or under maintained and recommends improvement of maintenance practices.
  • Ensures accuracy of data in systems by performing ongoing reviews and reporting on results.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of correspondence, spreadsheets, reports, records and files related to the work.
  • Develops various reports for staff including tracking and reporting of key performance indicators (KPI) and budget metrics for cost tracking and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in the development of maintenance predictive programs with other senior staff.
  • Collects and analyzes the reliability maintenance data such as vibration testing, oil analysis, and infrared scanning to ensure resiliency of the equipment and proactive approach to managing the risks.
  • Provides support in collecting and generating relevant data required for minor and major capital and maintenance projects.
  • Organizes and implements small maintenance projects including budgeting, prioritizing and tracking costs.
  • Establishes and maintains liaison with a variety of internal and external contacts and organizes scheduling priorities between Operations, Maintenance and Contractors.
  • Supports the maintenance and engineering staff in the execution of their responsibilities through collecting of data, performing research, specification writing, field/site visits, assisting in development of budgets, creating purchase orders, receipts of goods and other required project tasks.
  • Performs related work as required.

 
To be successful, you have:

  • Completion of a two year diploma course in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of the organization, policies, procedures, rules and regulations related to the work performed.
  • Sound knowledge of engineering mathematics, standard engineering nomenclature, and of engineering and construction practices.
  • Sound knowledge of the functions and operations of sewer and water collection/supply systems and understanding of standard maintenance practices for the utility industry.
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications and capabilities as related to the work performed, including Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to make moderately complex office and field engineering computations, prepare reports and estimate costs of equipment repairs and replacements.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, sketches and plans.
  • Ability to use computerized maintenance management software to prepare and maintain a variety or reports, correspondence and records related to the work.
  • Ability to utilize business intelligence tools to trend, analysis and report on deficiencies and optimization opportunities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and carry out oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Skill in the operation of software and equipment used in the work performed.
  • Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
